Multiple people have been shot near the Empire State Building, CBS 2 has learned.
Initial reports indicate at least three people shot, although the details remain sketchy. There is a large police presence on the scene.
CNN reported five people were shot.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately known. A fire department spokesman told the Associated Press it received a call about the shooting just after 9 a.m. Friday at 34th Street and Fifth Avenue.
Fox News reported the New York Police Department said the male shooter was dead.
Reuters reported a total of two people were dead with the shooting having no apparent link to terrorism.
